Everything these guys, this immaculate crew, had to give went into what was the last show of their self-described ‘Wearld Tour.’ The tour covered a lot of ground in Europe, Australia and the United States; but it ended here in Ft. Lauderdale. I was inspired by how much energy they gave; they must have been exhausted but you would never know it. Tracks like “Hive” and “Chum” among others were explosive. I really thought people were going to start a mosh pit at one point by way of the energy given off of the stage. About halfway through the set it must have been  too much for Taco as he puked up his Jamaican food onto the side of the stage (politely out of the spotlight), what a nice young man. I know it was Jamaican food because Earl made sure to bust on him about his ‘child-like stomach.’ If you have ever seen Loiter Squad (if not you should), you know there was a good sense of humor about the night. Earl of course being part of the Odd Future/Loiter Squad crew as well as Taco, the night was full of kung fu fighting, goofy dancing and cracking wise.

Supreme lyrical mastery was displayed in full as well, even from the crowd. Towards the end of the show Earl grabbed a guy from the crowd and was like “it’s your stage now, do your thing.” I thought the kid was going to cry, but then he grabbed the moment by the balls and introduced himself as Rob and proceeded to kick a little freestyle that was pretty good. Even Earl said “Good job Rob, most guys would have choked.” The set felt really free and off-the-cuff, but it was designed that way and I’m pretty sure every track from his album Doris was played. There were even some new tracks mixed in. I loved how much room was made for having interaction with the crowd and goofing around with each other on stage as much as the mic technique displayed by Earl and Taco.

I would highly recommend catching Earl Sweatshirt next time around, whether you like hip hop or not the show is going to be really fun and entertaining, I respect that a whole lot. You will probably get a contact high, whether that is a bonus or drawback for you I don’t know but it’s going to happen. – Robert Bernhardt
